parrots visit

Well it is officially the rainy season here. That means it rains at least once per day. Typically that seems to mean a rainy afternoon but sometimes the rain comes at night and sometimes all day. Everything is damp and somethings are moldy… welcome to the tropics!

One cool aspect of the rains is that lots of trees are fruiting and this means that frugivorous birds are very active when then find a good fruiting tree. Luckily for us there are a couple right near out cabin. Most afternoons I listen to the red-billed parrots in a tree high above our cabin but sometimes they come down to a tree level with our second floor balcony and less than 10m away. Here are a few pics we took for fun. Watching them feed was lots of fun and even though they were loud they didn't wake up Camilo from his nap!

family pics from Mindo

A few last random pics from the family visit. We tried to have some posed pictures and they sort of worked out. You can see some below. The first pic is of all the kids on the hummingbird sculpture in the Mindo town square. Luckily no one fell! Same with the second pic which was at a local pond with stepping stones. The last few pics are representative of the chaos of trying to get everyone together, especially the kids, to get a few pics. In any case, here they are!
